A workshop on conservation on finless and Baiji porpoise was held from Nov. 28 to Dec. 3 at the CAS Institute of Hydrobiology (IOH) in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province. The meeting attracted more than 50 scholars from the U.S., the U.K., Canada, Australia, Swiss, Japan and China.
Eight invited lectures were delivered at the workshop, which was co-chaired by IOH Vice Director Prof. Wang Ding and Chairman of the Cetacean Specialist Group of the World Conservation Union Dr. Randy Reeves. The participants focused their discussions on issues concerning safe capture, transportation and water quality monitoring, the genetic management and ex-situ protection of Baiji and Yangtze finless porpoise. As a result, the workshop come up with suggestions on their conservation.
